Hi everybody! My name's Thomas, welcome to my blog!

Who?

As already mentioned above my name is Thomas and I'm a student.

For details on me either check my portfolio at kraftner.com or have a look at my CV.

I'm currently studying Information Design at the University of applied science in Graz, Austria. (Alps, not kangaroos)

I'm in my final semester just working on my final thesis, which already brings us to the...

Why?

As I started my research for my final thesis I realized that I came across a lot of great stuff. Concept wise, technology wise and design/art wise. But what I hardly ever found was a good collection of things related to the stuff I was looking for.

Additionally I thought it might be a good idea to publish the stuff I create so others can use it as well. I think that's very important as I also frequently use stuff I find on other blogs which helps me a lot.

So this brings us to the last point - what is this blog about at all?

What?

This blog should document the process of my final thesis. If it works out fine I'll continue to use it later on as well.

My final thesis doesn't have a title yet but in general it's going to deal with Generative Art / Design mainly created using Flash and AS3.

But don't get me wrong - this blog isn't just another Flash blog. It mainly tries to build a bridge between the coders and the designers/artists.

I'll post stuff about art as well as about technical issues, but mainly stuff that tries to help coders to understand art and artists to understand code.

Just to sum this up let me tell you a little story. Last week I was at an exhibition of modern art about math in Art. There were great paintings, sculptures and so on from Dürer to Sol LeWitt but not a single computer was used in the whole exhibition? The question is why? I mean can there be any better way to do art incorporating math than the computer which is entirely based on numbers and math? But I think there is just still too much fear of computers and digital content at traditional art institutions and also artists.

To close this gap is my goal and the goal of this blog.

And now go and enjoy the show!
